You are the design engineering manager for a refrigerator. Most of your day is spent on administrative work. You do not have time to get into details on new or modified designs. However, you must approve (by sign-off) all new designs or changes. In real- ity, your sign-off consists of a brief review of the design, but you rely basically on the competence of your individual designers. You do not want to institute a formal reliability program for designers or set up a reliability group at this time. What action could you take to give yourself some assurance that a design presented to you has been adequately examined by the designer with respect to reliability? It is not possible to increase the testing, and any action you take must involve a minimum of additional costs.
