Assignment task:
World Hunger
Global wealth and income are distributed unequally, and large numbers of people are at risk of starvation due to lack of food, shelter, and water. People who suffer from undernourishment live shorter lives, and mean-while, they do not get the caloric energy necessary to lead a normal, healthy, and happy life. The groups who are disproportionately at risk of hunger include the rural poor, the urban poor, children in poor families, the elderly, women, and displaced people fleeing war and national disasters. In 2018, half the country of Yemen was on the brink of famine, and nearly half a million Yemeni children were chronically malnourished. Meanwhile, many well-off individuals across the world eat a diet of excess. Many governments and individuals provide charitable aid to the world's poor, but so far, these efforts are not enough to end global poverty and hunger.
Question 1: According to Contractarianism, are we obligated to give aid to the poor in our own community? What about the world's poor?
Question 2: Do we face a prisoner's dilemma with respect to providing charitable aid to individuals suffering from lack of food? Why or why not? Need Professional Help?
Question 3: What sort of principle regarding charitable aid to foreign nations would the contractors agree to from behind the veil of ignorance? Why?
