Assignment task:
Feedback: In the State of NY, felony convictions stay on a person's rap sheet for their lifetime. NY does not expunge convictions from a person's rap sheet unless the conviction is overturned. Young people in the age range of 16 to their 19th birthday who commit a first-time felony may be sentenced as youthful offenders and their records will be sealed. This is a one-shot deal. They are considered adjudicated offenders.
Questions:
Felony convictions disqualify ex-offenders from numerous types of jobs. Many of these jobs are not related to the type of offenses they committed. What do you think about these practices? What about sex-offenders? What about voting in state or national elections?
