we have given you some notes from a phone

We have given you some notes from a phone conversation between the client and you (you as the Operational Research consultant). There is no one right answer. You are trying to help the client. This usually requires something different from delivering an ‘answer'. The ‘assignment' is to build a simulation that will help with the problem, to run it and get some results, and to write two short reports to your client (Dr. Brooking) and your supervisor (Dr. Mark Elder) of the consultancy company you are working for (strictly no more than 1 page each, font size no less than 11 with Times New Roman, reasonable margins). You also need to submit the simulation model to your client.

Your report for the client should cover the following:

a) An easy to understand description (walkthrough) of the model so that your client can see overall, what is happening and what are the main elements of the model.

b) If applies, any necessary assumptions you have made.

c) A clear concluding advice for the client.

d) Any arguments, reasoning or remarks that can convince the client that you have done a good job and that your advice is trustworthy and nearly the best.

Your report to the supervisor should answer the following five technical questions:

1) Very briefly and in no more than 3 lines at most, what was the (client's) problem you attempted to tackle?

2) What was the approach you took in tackling this problem? (note, this is not about how you built the model, but that how you used the model to reach some conclusions and sound advice for your client, where did you start? How did you reach your conclusions?).

3) What did you do about warm up time (if included, how did you decide about its length, if not included, why)?

4) What did you do about probabilistic times (did you use any distributions? If yes justify your choice/s and if not explain why)?

5) What did you do to increase certainty of your results?

So to summarise, you will have three essential pieces of outputs for this assignment:

a. Your Simul8 file (only one file is enough)

b. A report to your client - one page

c. A report to your supervisor - one page

Note: All the three pieces should be submitted together, (i.e. either the three parts or nothing!). The three sections should be in accordance with each other.
