Assignment Task:
I am interested in medical social work because it allows me to combine my passion for supporting vulnerable populations with advocating for patients and their families. At the same time, helping them navigate healthcare systems, ensuring they have access to resources and services. An experience I had with medical social work before I started working at my current job. Previously I worked as a case manager for four years at a family homeless shelter called The Bassett Center. During my time at The Bassett Center, I encountered families facing medical challenges compounded by homelessness. While not directly in a medical social work role, I collaborated with healthcare providers to connect clients with medical care, helped them navigate insurance systems, and advocated for their health-related needs. These experiences deepened my understanding of the critical role social workers play in bridging gaps between medical care and social services.
