Match the ethical theory with the duty to tell the truth: An ethical theory holds that we should always tell the truth. An ethical theory holds that society determines if we have a duty to tell the truth. The consequences determine if we have a duty to tell the truth. If the consequences are good, we should tell the truth. If not, we should not tell the truth. If society benefits from our having a duty to tell the truth, we should always tell the truth, even if it is sometimes counter-productive. To find out if we have a duty to tell the truth an ethical theory holds that we should ask the question: What would happen if everybody else considered not to tell the truth?
