An unknown compound, "P", isolated from a mould, was found to be optically active as well as to have a molecular formula of C11H20. Hydrogenation of P with excess H2 utilizing a finely divided platinum catalyst produced compound "Q", C11H24.
Vigorous oxidation of P with hot acidic KMnO4 produce merely two compounds, with a ratio of 2 moles of "R" (C3H6O to 1 mole of "S" (C5H8O4). Compound S was as well optically active.
Assume possible structures for P,Q,R and S. Define the reasons for your deductions.
