Assignment task:
Watch Josie's story (the video) Occurrences similar to these situations require investigations as to why something bad happened, called a sentinel event. Every facility has a quality department that reviews these situations and then makes recommendations on new policies, which require evidence-based practice. The reason for our nursing interventions is all based on research and quality improvements. You may learn certain ways to do nursing interventions now, and when you have been in practice for years, that way may change because research has shown a better way of doing things to improve patient outcomes. Please view this video and keep this in mind as you become a nurse. It is a very life-changing event and I know none of you would ever want to be in the position of the nurses that took care of Josie. You may think that the dosages calculations seem trivial now, but it is SO very important to learn how to correctly do these as patients' lives may rely on you calculating a dosage. If you are EVER unsure, please double-check your math with a coworker. I am asking my coworkers for verification on any dose I am unsure of, but specifically pediatrics dosages as many times these are fractions of what I normally give to an adult and I want to take that extra time to be a safe RN. Another excellent resource is pharmacy to verify a dosage to make sure it is correct.
Please provide what you'll do when you become nurse to prevent this from happening to you. Minimum of 5 sentences.
