"The unvaccinated, including the very young and aged and those who are immunocompromised because of infection, congenital conditions, or medical history, must be protected by passive immunity" (Mallory et al., 2018). Vaccines can prevent infectious diseases that once killed or harmed many infants, children, and adults. The H. influenzae type b (Hib) infections is very serious and "has been nearly abolished in the United States thanks to the Hib vaccine" (CDC, 2023). The State's Role in a vaccine policy is to keep the constituents safe and healthy to decrease healthcare costs. "The more accessible we make vaccination through education programs, minute clinics, job-site resources, and decreased costs, the more effective vaccination programs will be" (Mallory et al., 2018). The provider or institution's role is to educate the patients on the state/federal requirements and to explain why the vaccines are safe, why their children and individuals need them, and the side effects. The provider's role is to help their patient make informed educated decision and guide them into evidenced based care.
