Assignment task: When it comes to the final project, based around Al-Qaeda and the organizations affiliations with the United States and the Middle East utilizing Raw data analysis and its different techniques helps when working through all of the data and statistics. Raw data analysis lays down the groundwork for you to then be able to dissect the information and extract what is important. Choosing the right technique has to do with what your end goal is. You want to know your end goal, understand your data and information you have collected, and choose the method that will best suit your process. The three raw data techniques I will focus on are link analysis, telephone analysis, and event charting.
? Link Analysis Looks for a connection or relationship between people or things in a database. It allows you to "to calculate centrality measures-namely degree, betweenness, closeness, and eigenvector-and see the connections on a link chart or link map" Link analysis. The 7 steps to the link analysis are Assemble all raw data, Determine focus of the chart, Construct an association matrix, Code the associations in the matrix, Determine the number of links for each entity, Draw a preliminary chart, and Clarify and re-plot the chart. This technique is important when it comes to the final project because it helps the researcher or in this case myself be able to find the links or connections within the analysis. You will often hear entities or nodes mentioned when it comes to link analysis. An entity can be an object, person, or place.
? Telephone Analysis looks at the call pattern of phone calls for a company. The main goal is to analyze the relationship between the caller and the moderator. It gathers data of day the call came in, the duration of the call, and the time the call was taken. It can be divided into two categories: quantitative or statistical analysis and association analysis. Cyberterrosim is common and utilizing this technique can be helpful by analyzing the technical side of terrorism and the attacks that have been committed.
? Event Charting: Allows you to create and display an event/process in chronological order. It can be done by using bubbles or symbols but making sure the objective is clear and concise. It must include a brief description, connecting lines, a dot signifying order, and the date. This technique will be beneficial when working on the final project because it will help to ensure I have all of my research and information gathered in order. It ensures that the objective is clear and that my goal is clearly stated.
