Most companies and organizations have a written code of conduct for all employees. These codes of conduct and codes of ethics establish standards for behavior "- what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. These codes may also specify how to report violations and what might happen when an employee violates these codes "- punishment, per se. Some companies go even further and have a statement of values which is made known to their external customers and to the public.

Codes of conduct and ethics support six basic values: respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, trustworthiness, and citizenship. (Ferrell, O., Fraedrich, J., & Ferrell, L., 2011, p. 224)

We often say that ethics and values start at home. This is very true! As students and faculty here at ECPI, we have very defined guidelines and rules for standards of behavior. These codes are found throughout our catalog and range from the student honor code to electronic policy and drug policy. You may have a printed ECPI Catalog, but here is a link to the most current ECPI Catalog:

Using the catalog, respond to the following:

• Identify one rule or guideline for ethical behavior here at ECPI.

• Explain how this rule sets a standard for behavior.

• Identify how this rule or guideline addresses (or does not address) current ethical issues found in the workplace.

• Ethical codes of conduct should be revisited every year. What change or addition would you make to the codes of conduct found in our catalog?
