Case Study:
Xpick is Courier Company which wishes to revolutionize courier industry by providing augmented services to its customers. A part of initiative is to automate process and use scientific techniques for route planning. Xpick has customers which include both individual and corporate. They are located at various places making it difficult to optimize route for pickup of couriers. Further, Xpick plans to step up an online software pickup facility which will allow Xpick to scientifically plan its pickup route. Customers would be required to enter location of their pickup of parcels in an online system. The online system will have a defined cutoff period usually around 4.30 PM. All the requests received would be stored in a database. An optimization module would then compute the least path of travel covering all the destinations and give detail of the path to the driver of the pickup Van. In addition for urgent pickups a SMS facility has been integrated in the online system that allows customers to SMS important couriers after 4.30 PM, if the pickup Van is in vicinity of that area.
