Upon admission the DPU nurse notes:
- Fasting status - fasted from 12 midnight, no morning medication taken.
- Consent - signed
- Pre anaesthetic check
- Test results - F.B.E., U & E, L.F.T.
- Pre op checklist
Cicek is transported to the Operating Room (O.R.) at 0800 from the D.P.U. Upon arrival to the operating suite, the DPU nurse gave a
handover to the operating room nurse and Cicek is admitted into the O.R. Her surgery occurs as planned and her gall bladder is removed with no complications.
Cicek is transferred by the anaesthetist and the anaesthetic nurse to the post anaesthetic recovery room (P.A.R.U.) where the P.A.R.U nurse continues to monitor Cicek every 5 minutes until she meets the P.A.R.U. discharge criteria. Cicek recovers from the procedure well as per the attached notes, and after 30 minutes her condition meets the discharge criteria and she is ready for discharge back to the day procedure unit. The PARU nurse informs the DPU that Cicek is ready to return and upon return to prepare Cicek for transfer to the ward
Cicek complains of shoulder tip pain rated at 6.
Cicek's transfer to the DPU is cancelled and in consultation with the anaesthetist she remains in the P.A.R.U. for further pain relief. After a further 15 minutes Cicek is reviewed by the surgeon and anaesthetist in the P.A.R.U and they request that she remain in hospital overnight for further pain relief. An admission is organized and Cicek is now ready to be transferred to the ward.
You are the ward nurse and you have just been informed by the Nurse Unit Manager that a new patient being admitted to the ward into your care from the PARU. You attend the P.A.R.U to receive a handover from the P.A.R.U. nurse and transfer Cicek to her room.
