Unfreezing - is altering the present stable equilibrium

Organizational Culture Analysis: Understanding & Responding to Rapidly Changing Business Environments

This assignment will reflect your case analysis and critical thinking skills in a 1200-1400 word paper.

For this analysis, you will use a Thesis/Antithesis/Synthesis structure to address the social, ethical and strategic business issues of the case using the framework of dialectical reasoning. Dialectical reasoning is a method of reasoning in which one starts with a thesis and develops a contradictory antithesis, both with rationales, and then combines and resolves them into a coherent synthesis, with the ultimate goal being the search for truth.

Thesis - a statement or theory that is put forward as a premise to be maintained or proved; what you believe to be true about the case.

Antithesis - the negation or contradiction of the thesis; the opposite (or "flip side" of what you believe to be true about the case.

Synthesis - the resolution of the conflict between thesis and antithesis; combines what you originally believed with its opposite, blended into a case that resolves the conflict between the two points of view.

TWO CHANGE MODELS FOUND IN THE ARTICLE

LEWIN
- Unfreezing - is altering the present stable equilibrium which supports existing behaviors and attitudes. This process must take account of the inherent threats that change presents to people and the need to motivate those affected to attain the natural state of equilibrium by accepting change.

- Changing - developing new responses based on new information.

- Refreezing - stabilizing the change by introducing the new responses into the personalities of those concerned (Armstrong, 2006)

Brisson-Banks, (2010), p. 243.

BRIDGES
- The Ending Phase - Saying goodbye to the way things were, a particular job, associates, a location, even a manager or supervisor can all be changed when realignment happens in an organization.

- The Neutral Zone - New environment, new responsibilities, the rules have changed, there are different people to work with and report to, this can all be unsettling as one explores and experiments in this new setting.

- New Beginnings - This period requires the final adjustment to new ways of doing many different tasks or even similar tasks but in handling them in a new manner. (Bridges & Mitchell, 2000).

Brisson-Banks, (2010), p. 246.

3. Develop a 1200-1400 word paper, cover your Thesis-Antithesis-Synthesis in light of the social, ethical, and strategic business issues. Integrate how the ideas from change theory may apply to issues in your chosen case as well as communication concepts. You must provide evidence to support your points. Include citations and references for all sources used.
