Instead, these people come from various origins and have a variety of distinctive traits and it is crucial to approach each issue with objectivity, openness, and readiness to consider all pertinent elements (Vossekuil et al., 2002). Based on the Safe School Initiative, many school shooters have been or were victims of being bullied, had issues when it came to the loss of some form of interpersonal relationship, and showed some sort of liking to violent media or games. Most surprisingly, only one-third of the perpetrators had ever been diagnosed or evaluated for some type of mental illness (Vossekuil et al., 2002). According to the choice theory, criminals are not scared to disobey the law because they love the adrenaline rush that crime provides, place less importance on compliance, and are more risk-taking than normal people (Siegel, 2017). I believe it's crucial to try to comprehend criminal conduct, and the characteristic theory is one strategy that does just that. In accordance with this view, criminal activity may be related to genetic or mental qualities (Siegel, 2017). We may better understand why the attacker behaved in the manner they did by looking at their habits of behavior, mental processes, and thoughts and reactions. When it comes to understanding school shooters, there is not a one-size-fits-all explanation, and it is of the utmost importance to study both the choice and trait theory when it comes to understanding the school shooter profile.
2. Good post. School shooters come from many diverse backgrounds, and as such their personality traits are shaped by different characteristics. Some displayed anti-social deviance, psychological issues, fascination or obsession with weapons, and lack of empathy for others, among other characteristics as stated by you. For these attackers in school shootings, the concept of choice and trait theories help criminologists, the criminal justice system, and other relevant authorities to explain a crime accurately. Both theories assume humans are self-interested beings and they may develop or experience deviant behavioral tendencies to carry out deadly mass shootings or other criminal activity. Also, as stated by you, psychologists can use these theories to understand a perpetrator's motives and triggers comprehensively, which is perfectly right (Siegel, 2018).
3. The common characteristics of school shooters are half of the shooters are current or former students. Most of the school-targets were suburban, rural, wealthier, and low-minority schools. Urban, poor, and high-minority schools had more shooting overall by disputes and these shooting were by non-students or unknown shooters( gao, 2020). Choice theory criminologist suggest that criminals' shooters have a choice in their crime. Criminologists say crimes are planned and calculated to commit to crime. Some criminologists believe that most criminal behavior no matter how destructive or seeing irresponsible is actually a matter of thought and decision making (Seigal, 2018). School shooting traits with trait theory many criminals have mental health issues, and their behavior can be influence can shape their behavior (Seigal, 2018). Trait theory criminologist believe that insanity and criminal behavior are linked (Seigal, 2018). The shooter is argued and aggressive personality.
4. As we have learned in our readings, trait theory helps us in understanding and potentially the prevention of criminal behavior. This has led to the creation of different rehabilitation policies. Can you discuss some of the ones you have found in your research?
5. The Trait Theory was initially proposed to help in understanding people's behavior and their personality characteristics. Because people do not always behave predictably and individual personality traits cannot be explained as to how it is developed or emerged, this theory is often a poor assessment of one's behavior. However, given the advancements in modern technology, the modern version of trait theory is gaining traction today. With this theory, careful observation is being done through scientific experiments in the in-depth studying and understanding of human behavior and how to prevent deviant behaviors. Also, this theory led to the creation of preventative, and rehabilitative policies and programs within communities and the criminal justice system that can effectively address personality and behavioral issues, mental health issues, and in making other pertinent decision-making exercises (Siegel, 2018).
6. The purpose of trait theories is to understand the personality of people. It is suggested that biological makeup control human behavior and determines whether a person choose law-violating or conventional behaviors (Seigal, 2018). Trait theory is basic trait that can link someone's family trait or their environment. The flaws of the logic of trait theory are sometime predicted wrong. Modern trait theory considers the interactions of the environment such as their family, poverty, and racism. Traits theory explain the way people respond to events that happens. trait theory also believes to be a biochemical condition through family traits. Modern traits theory approaches confront problems such as constructing and objective personality traits assessment, connecting the descriptive traits( pudmed, 2018). Modern traits theory allows the understanding of person clarifying the trait behavior. Modern traits theory also understand people are different from each other with strength and basic trait makeup. Trait theory is what a person if expose it a negative environment or positive.
