Assignment Instructions:
Section 1: Pick one social problem (some examples might be oppression, discrimination, trauma, addiction/substance use, poverty, child or adult abuse/neglect, domestic violence, homelessness, etc.) and discuss an overview of the problem. Include the where/what/how/why of this problem. Introduce a newspaper article in your area or a national newspaper to describe the extent of the problem.
Section 2: Discuss how theory lends an understanding of the specific social problem that you have chosen. For example, Psychoanalytic theory can assist us in understanding that a client's past experiences can be what they base values, motivation, and goals. Theory helps us to understand human behaviors, individual as well as social.
Section 3: In terms of the social problem that you have identified, discuss how theory is used in the assessment, development of treatment planning, and interventions with clients.
