Problem:
This course has proven to be challenging for me. Coming into the course my knowledge of public policy would be considered basic. Through the various reading and assignments, I have gotten a better understanding of the intricacies involved in public policy. Public policy is intricate, purposeful, systematic and strategic. Ther are numerous elements to take into consideration and various stakeholders who impact the creation of a policy. Policy has tong-term impact on the lives of citizens who do not understand its complexities. Government is responsible for policies to impact society and not everyone will benefit instantaneously or in the long-term.
There will continue to be societal problems that need to be address. Public policies can shape behaviors or create specific outcomes. Policies define rules and standards while at the same time identify penalties if the policies are not adhered to. The majority of the assignments allowed me to think beyond the obvious to provide better analysis and assessments.
I am entering my 16 weeks Capstone class and I am sure the valuable lessons learned like conducting research will be applied moving forward. I am actively pursuing a new career in the federal government and who knows public policy could be in my near future. Thanks to everyone who provided insightful feedback throughout the class and best of luck to everyone in their future endeavors.
