Assignment task:
Neil began his treatment in an on-site residential facility that provided 24-hour staff support. The setting was a single-story house with eight private bedrooms and community living, dining, kitchen, laundry, and shower areas. Neil's treatment team included a nurse, nutritionist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech-language pathologist, life skills specialist, recreational therapist, psychologist, family counselor, case manager, and five residential staff. His treatment program included three components. The first component addressed medical needs as they arose, although these were minimal. The second and primary component was education based and focused on developing skill sets. The third component was psychological in nature and targeted helping Neil regain hope and optimism for the future and an anticipation of pleasure. Neil's team speculated that addressing the psychological component in conjunction with the medical and education components would lead to optimal participation and maximize outcomes.
