A new business begins to manufacture patio furniture made from thinwall steel tubing. Shielded metal arc welding is initially employed, but metal burn-through occurs immediately. The production supervisor,an experienced welder, recommends that shielded metal arc welding be replaced with TIG.The vice president of manufacturing suggests that this would be expensive and the problem could just as easily be solved by further training of the production welders to improve their welding skills. In your opinion who is right and what would you recommend in this case?
