Topographical Survey and Preparation of Drawings:

Topographical Survey for a road project consists of three sequential stages:

(a) Reconnaissance Survey, including a study of Topo sheets and a field inspection.

(b) Preliminary Survey, using theodolite, and levels or Total stations.

(c) Final location survey, marking the alignment selected on the ground. Based on the survey data, plans, longitudinal sections and cross-sections are prepared.

The scales are as under:

Plain and Rolling Terrain   1 : 2500 for horizontal scale

1 : 250 for vertical scale

Hilly Terrain and Urban Area        1 : 1000 for horizontal scale

1 : 100 for vertical scale

The levels along the centre line shall be at 50 m intervals. Cross-sections shall be taken at intervals of 100-250 m intervals in plain terrain and 50 m intervals in hilly terrain.
