Essay: The Blood of Eden

First Phase
For the first chapter of this experience, I just want you to get familiar, intimately familiar with these lyrics. You may want to get the song and listen to it repeatedly (YouTube!) As I've said, I've heard it a thousand times and it still moves me and suggests more meaning.
Questions to ponder: What's the story of the song? Does it reflect your own experiences in certain ways? What about the specific language? How do you read its ambiguity? What is the "blood of Eden"?
Please know for sure that there's no one right way to read this song. You'll be interpreting, making your own meaning.
Second Phase
Now you'll be working with two texts principally, the totality of your experience of this course, and all you know about how one should live. "The Blood of Eden" lyrics celebrate (romantic? religious?) joy and sorrow, and Between Men and Women confronts (romantic/marital) idealism. You should weave your interpretations into a personal essay of no more than 700 words. How you do so depends on your own readings, your own sensibility.
Your essay structure will announce itself as you develop your interpenetrating insights.
Really study these texts, study to connect text to text, text to personal knowledge and course experience. Listen to the song. Study our passages from Between Men and Women. Search your heart. Summon your idealism. Call disappointed readers to The Good Life.
