Aim:
To produce a guide suitable for use by a pharmacist which provides information about a selection of herbal products.
Instructions:
Individual exercise: Each student has been allocated a herbal product. You are required to produce a review of this product which includes thefollowing information:
Science
History of use; description of herb; cultivation; relevant plant parts; active ingredients; extraction methods; standardisation (if possible)
Clinical Aspects
Indications for use; contra-indications; interactions; adverse reactions; dosage forms; counselling points (if any).
Each product review should be evidence based as much as possible and referenced and be no more than the equivalent ofTHREE A4 pages.
Group Exercise: Students have been assigned to groups and should collate their individual product reviews in the form of a booklet with a brief introduction. Marks will be allocated for presentation,uniformity of review monographs andusability of the guide.
