Aim: To acquire knowledge and understanding of the concept sustainable buildings.
Objective - Application of the theoretical concepts, methods and wider perspective understanding of underlying concepts of sustainability.
- To prepare and evaluate the concept of sustainable building.
- Apply the basic concepts to develop a sustainable building design for any given location.
- Analyze critically and review the elements of sustainable building.
Task - Mini Project
Visit any building with swimming pool or water treatment plant or waste water treatment plant or a public auditorium or small scale industry.
Identify and critically evaluate the degree of implementation of sustainable building concepts used in the planning, design and maintenance of this unit.
Students may use these 10 concepts as the basis for evaluation, for the selected unit.

VII. Maximize the use of natural daylight
VIII. Reuse existing materials, use fewer materials, and use building materials that are considered to be environmentally friendly
IX. Design for ease of maintenance and use of environmentally friendly cleaning products
X. Maintain structural and building systems for maximum energy and environmental effectiveness.
The report is to be submitted in DIGITAL form as a PDF file. Include photographs to justify your observations. Prepare the report in such a way that the minimum number of pages not less than 5 and maximum not more than 15.
Note:
- The source of photographs must be from ongoing/existing projects in Oman, and not a collection from any web site source.
- A plagiarism check report should be attached with the report.
- NO hard copy submission required.
