As the U.S. population continues to age and lifespans continue to increase, mental health disorders will increase in the elderly population. Mental health issues are often under-treated because of the focus on treating other chronic health issues. In addition, it is assumed that loss of one's faculties is a natural part of the aging process. This means that dementia and Alzheimer's disease are not always recognized.
