The success of a project can be measured by several factors. Did the project stay within scope, budget, time frame? Did the project complete? Were the goals that were originally set completed? I believe the factors for a successful project should be defined at the beginning and revisited throughout the projects life cycle. One way to do this is to establish check points at different intervals during the life cycle and have others who are not familiar with the project involved with reviewing whether it is on track. Overall I think detailed planning, maintaining focus, and communication are the most important items in successful project management.
