I studied the Social Behavior report of Beef Cattle by Stephanie Epps, Which I enjoyed. My First time heiffer just had a calf 9 days ago. She actually had it in the barn where she just came in to go into labor. I know this because I owned a surveillance camera company and we had camera coverage of this birthing. She had the calf at 5:05 AM with the bull laying right next to her. I didn't notice the calf until around 8:30 AM while I was feeding the horses. I decided to move the bull out and put him in another corral to give the calf more room with it's mother. It's been 10 days now yesterday I left the bull in for awhile and of course he tried to mount the cow twice but she wouldn't allow it. I was told it sometimes takes a cow 45 days to come into heat again after calving I also noticed the bull being a little testy around the calf. So I seperated them again. When is the calf old enough to be around the bull? I realize on open range the bull is always near the cows and calf. I'm only on a 5 acre fenced in property. Thanks,
