The purpose of this Syringe management plan is to protect the social community against injuries caused by syringes and help people manage the use of syringes in a safe and healthy manner. This has always been a key issue for the residents of the Maribyrnong City Council and yet while other councils have implemented strategies to fight this problem the Maribyrnong council's reactiveness has been highly lacklustre. By implementing a syringe management plan, the Maribyrnong Council can make a major positive change to their community. There are key statistics and researches to support the approval of a syringe management plan. One that was conducted by Flaster & Kaldor in 2009 showed that by 2015, 50 % of residents would have a lower risk of syringe related injuries. These injuries include the contraction of HIV and Hepatitis (A,B and C). The opportunities this plan offers to the safety of the council's citizens is invaluable, by implementing a plan like this the Maribyrnong City Council will literally be saving lives. The syringe management plan will also help to improve the overall image of the Maribyrnong City Council. This better public image will result in a greater level of investment from businesses. So by implementing an effective syringe management plan the Maribyrnong City Council will be protecting residents from harmful, life threatening injuries as well as improving the financial stability of the community.
