EET 372 Lab 3

Advanced Digital Circuits

The purpose of this lab is to introduce students to the workings of counters. This lab is setup so that the students create counters from flip-flops using their knowledge gained from class lecture to understand how counters work internally before using the ICs that are prebuilt for counters. This lab is meant to demonstrate the logic circuits discussed in class physically so student can connect in-book literature to it physical representation.

Part 1

1. Design and build a counter that can count from 0 to 9 and then resets automatically on the next clock pulse after the counter has reached 9. The counter will need to have a clock created by a timer and a way to display the output from your clock. The timer should have a period of

1 second so that the counter represents an actual clock that you would find on the wall.

2. Once your circuit is complete have the working Circuit checked off by the instructor before moving on to the next part of the circuit.

3. The write up of your counter should include your design stage for the circuit, include the work for calculating your debounce time constant (Use MS Word Equation Editor), a picture of the Circuit, also calculate the cost for one circuit including all parts except wire. To price out the circuit you can visit (DigiKey.com) to find the price of parts.
