the problem with a battery charger say for

The problem with a battery charger (say, for portable devices) is that it continues to draw power even after the battery is fully charged thereby wasting electricity. In addition, this results in undermining the lifetime of the battery. Design a battery charger, which could outperform the existing charger by charging a battery to its full potential and then alert the user that it is completely charged and importantly, turn-off the power to the device. This would help in improving the energy efficiency. The functionality of the charger must be demonstrated through experiments. Specifications for a target application (say, a mobile phone or digital camera) can be chosen based on the availability of components/devices and design cost involved.

SOLUTION has to be 50 pages excluding appendix if required.

excluding appendices which could contain supplementary drawings, program listings etc. It is your responsibility to organise and if necessary pay for the typing of the Report. The School does leave scope for individual report presentation style.   Typically however, the following structure is preferred:

  • suitable front page,
  • one paragraph summary (abstract) on a page of its own,
  • contents page,
  • introduction,
  • problem analysis,
  • problem solution,
  • problem implementation,
  • results,
  • discussion of results,
  • conclusion,
  • future work,
  • references,
  • project timetable (e.g. Gantt chart),
  • appendices (if required)

General rules which should be followed:

1. The typescript should not extend into the binding of the folder and should use 1 line spacing and be left justified. Program listings and tables should be single spaced.

2. Font size 12 should be used and all pages should be consecutively numbered.

3. Any table, graph, sketch or photograph which for some good reason has to be presented at right angles to the binding, should be arranged with its top towards the binding.

4. Referencing should adhere to the Harvard standard. You can find a guide to Harvard referencing under the "Study Skills Support" section on the Portal. You can also seek guidance from your supervisor.

NB. You must include a number of appropriate references in your report. Whilst it is recognised that the WWW is a fantastic source of material this must be used wisely. It is acceptable to use it to access attributable material, such as journal or conference papers,  properly authored e-books, manufacturer?s data sheets etc, provided you properly reference these.  That is you reference the paper, e-book, data sheet etc, NOT the web address. Un-attributable Web material, such as Wikipedia, will not be counted.

Remember, you must, for completeness, properly reference all your source material and when evaluating your report only references to certified sources will be given due weighting.

TIP: If you are using Word 2007 or later, use the excellent reference manager to input your reference and insert them into your  document.

Selecting the "APA" style will automatically set the reference format to a style comparable with the Harvard system.

5. The use of colour is left to the student, but should be used with discretion. Note that all copies of the report should be the same.

6. Be sure to use the UK English version of the spellchecker, NOT the US „American? English.
