The Physical Environment
The actual hospital environment is another factor that may be stressful for the child and family. There are many unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells. The child is admitted to a strange room, either alone or with children whom he does not know, and to an unfamiliar bed. Child's parents should be allowed to stay with him. To prevent injury and spread of infection certain protocols are maintained in the hospital. These regulations, may increase the child's and family's stress.
