The need for training has become more apparent as business and technology change rapidly. Many organizations have shied away from spending a great deal on training as they fear that other organizations or competitors are likely to steal their workers after they have received training. Thus, there is a dilemma. Should organizations invest in training if some of their trained workforce leaves soon after they have received the training? Also, many of the best performers expect training or they are likely to leave the organization for other organizations where they will receive training. Thus training has retention value. What should organizations do? Also, since training and career management have been cut, should it be up to the employees to manage their own careers?
