The fusion of two alpha particles produces Be 8 which is a magic nucleus.Be 8 splits back to alpha particles and hence nucleosynthesis to C 12 cannot proceed. The question is how C 12 in stars is produced as collision of 3 alpha particles is a highly improbable reaction? Kindly also take into consideration the survival of a few atoms of C 12 under such intense condition of Temp and Pressure.I am asking this because intense gamma photons can disintegrate Fe 56 back to 14 alpha particles.
