Revlon once advertised a hair straightener product. The instructions told consumers to leave it on for 20 minutes. Unfortunately many thought that if you left the product on longer it would work better and ended up with damaged or lost hair as a result. The FTC ordered Revlon to include more information in future promotions/packaging that warned people about leaving the product on too long. This is an example of:
- affirmative disclosure
- promotional inclusion
- misinformation admission
- corrective advertising
- consent order
