The F Distribution

The F distribution is the distribution of the ratio of 2 random variables. Both random variables have yet another distribution, called the c² Distribution. The degrees of freedom of the numerator is n₁ and that of the denominator is n₂. We will come across this distribution while studying Regression.

Example 

Consider the F distribution with degrees of freedom 2 in the numerator and 13 in the denominator. What is the area under the curve, right of 3.81?

From the tables, this area equals 0.05. (Tables are given in the appendix.)
