The ethical framework we will be using to analyze Volkswagen's ethical dilemma is consequentialist theory. We chose this theory because it judges the morality of an action from the consequences of that action. Not only does this theory perfectly fits with the addressing VW, it will also be used to judge future actions of the company and the consequences of those actions.
Who: Gunther Volkswagen associates, the consumers, stockholders
What: Last September the EPA found out that many VW cars in the US market had a "defeat device" (a software) installed in the diesel engines that could detect when tests are being conducted. Due to the capability of the device to notify VW when an inspection will get done, they are able to change the performance accordingly to improve results
Where: domestic and international markets (Germany/USA)
Why: This happens because VW wanted to cheat its way to top based on the performance of their cars.
