The 9/11 hijackers and their supporters claim that suicide is forbidden according to their religion, and yet the hijackers willingly, deliberately allowed themselves to be killed when they carried out their murderous operation. But in their view, they did not commit suicide, but rather "martyrdom," which is a religious person's deliberate self-sacrifice for the glory of their God. My question to you is: do you think this is a cop-out? Isn't blowing yourself up in order to pay tribute to your God basically just suicide dressed up as religious commitment? OR is there really a difference between the two forms of self-destruction, such that the one is rightly deemed "unethical" whereas the other one is not?
