Task Interdependence

That is the extent in which a task requires people to work interdependently for their successful completion. For example to making a car can be designed as a series of independent tasks (i.e., an assembly line). Alternatively, it can be designed as a highly interdependent task that a group of people work together to produce a car. Research has shown that for self-managed teams to be effective, their work needs to be designed as a highly interdependent task.

Where task interdependence is high, reward interdependence should also be high.
