Reflection Paper - You will start the course by developing a reflection paper. The purpose of the reflection paper is to identify your career objectives, summarize how the MSIS program has helped you achieve those objectives and how the knowledge acquired relates to the targeted workplace, and set the framework for developing a résumé and cover letter as well as selecting five required assignments to be included in the development of your portfolio. Further, the reflection paper will represent a value-adding tool to your instructor in assessing your communication skills, critical-thinking skills, and specialization expertise.
1. Identify 3 discrete (separate) IT career paths that seem interesting, relevant, and potentially rewarding for you. A "path" should identify the general area, any specialized sub-areas, the type of work that you could be doing, and your level/role. The three discrete areas should suit your training, skills, and personal aspirations reasonably well.
- For example, broad general areas could be one or more of these: Help Desk/Customer Support, IT Audit and Compliance, InfoSec Security, Systems Analysis, Network Administration, or Database Administration.
- Specialized sub-areas could be, for example, Forensics Analyst, COBIT or SoX Compliance Analysis, Intrusion Detection and Remediation Specialist, Disaster and Recovery Specialist, Database Design and Analysis, Data Analytics and Visualization Engineer, etc.
