Assignment task:
Part 1: Observe lesson involving ELLs Grade/ESL Level: Kindergarten Class/Topic: Safety.
Using "Appendix A: SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol), and focus on only the first three components: Lesson Preparation, Building Background, and Comprehensible Input.
Part 2: In addition to checking the boxes for the three components, in each Comments section, describe the highly evident features and include specific examples that support your assessment of the lesson.
Following the observation, discuss your observations and any questions you had about the lesson with your mentor teacher.
Part 3: Reflection
Reflect on the following:
Suggest ways to enhance the observed lesson in the SIOP components of Lesson Preparation, Building Background, and Comprehensible Input.
Discuss how the teacher accommodated for different English language proficiency levels.
Address how what you have learned will be applied to your future professional practice.
