Streptomycin:
It was discovered in the year 1944 by Waksman. Streptomycin is successful against tuberculosis. It is as well used for other general infections such as ears, throat, kidney and lungs. It is extremely useful in the treatment of pneumonia and meningitis. Streptomycin is an amino base and forms salts that are very soluble in water. The calcium and sulphate chloride double salts are white amorphous powders. The particle keeps two strongly basic quanido groups and a weakly basic methylamino group.
