Strategies of engaging students

Robert teaches 4th grade math in Colorado. He is very creativity in the classroom and constantly works to include paired and group activities to keep his students engaged. Still, he has to lecture his students from time to time and he has found that his students seem bored when he is speaking in front of them. As a student, Robert was always responsible, so his first reaction is to become frustrated with the work ethic of his students. On Friday, he plans on lecturing his students for 30 minutes about how to calculate the area of shapes. He is very worry is that they will tune out again, and he will need to reteach the concepts.

I need help to describe 3 strategies that Robert can use during his 30 minute lecture to engage his students while he is lecturing and for each strategy how he would enact the strategy in class and a method he could use to assess had worked.
