Assignment task: Strategic planning to handle team disengagement and guarantee project delivery.
Establishing a strategic plan from the outset to handle team member disengagement will help reduce the impact on the successful delivery of a project through identification of several control measures such as:
- Establish a communication channel, such as the Tutor Group Forum.
- Establish a reporting structure, to feedback progress to a team/project leader, to instill a sense of responsibility.
- Establish frequency for providing updates and feedback of project milestones.
- Project management and tracking project milestones and shared access to resources so that others can pick up tasks if a member is unavailable.
- Feedback in way that encourages and engages members provide positive feedback and constructive criticism in a 'sandwich'.
- Build a rapport and getting to know and understand team members can create a good team dynamic.
- Play to skills, experience, and qualities of team members so they are motivated and comfortable completing tasks.
- Encourage all team members to communicate as early as possible in the project on how they feel and if they are unable to complete assigned tasks so support can be provided.
If a team member is disengaged, try to establish contact with that member to understand their situation and assess if they will be able to complete tasks. If not, how can they be supported, and if any, what impact will this have so that appropriate measures can be taken towards delivering the project.
