Step One: You are a researcher and collecting statistics from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) on the top ten MS-DRGs in the nation. In order to complete this, you must visit the AHRQ site from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). (https://hcupnet.ahrq.gov/). Once at the site you will follow these steps to generate the report you need:
- Choose National Statistics on All Stays
- Select you are a Researcher, medical professional
- Select Rank order specific diagnoses or procedures
- Select most recent year
- Select Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG)
- Select Top 10
- Select By hospital charges, mean
- Select All patients in all hospitals
- Your results will then display in a table that must be converted into a Pareto chart.
If you choose Excel, you can easily create the Pareto chart using Excel).
Step Three: Analyze why the top-ranked DRG is the most costly for hospitals even though it does not have the most patients. Use resources to help you write a one-page summary in APA format. Include a reference page for any resources used. You will submit your Pareto chart with the following data elements: Rank, DRG (name not required), Total number of discharges, and charges (mean) and your one-page summary analysis.
