Some nurses in County Public Health conducted a survey of woen who had received inadequate preatal care. They used information from birth certificates to select mothers for the survey. The mothers that were selected were divid into two groups with the following data:
Group 1 (5 or fewer prenatal visits) Group 2 (6 or more prenatal visits)
Birthweights (in grams) for the babies of Group X mothers were as follows:
49, 108, 110, 82, 93, 114, 134, 114, 96, 52, 101, 114, 120, 116
Whereas, birthweights for the second group (Y) were:
133, 108, 93, 119, 119, 98, 106, 131, 87, 153, 116, 129, 97, 110
Test the claim that the babies born to mothers who received moer prenatal care are larger than the babies born to mothers who received less prenatal care.
a) use alpha= 0.05. State the null and alternative hypotheses. Determine the test statistic.
b) Given the observations of Group X and Group Y, calculate the value of the test statistic and state your conclusion.
c) Approximate the p-value
d) Test whether the assumption of equal variances is valid. Let sigma = 0.05
