Spina Bifida Occulta
There is no protrusion of the meninges but the vertebrae are bifid. There are three components of the spina bifida occulta.
a) Vertebral-there is defective fusion of the vertebral arches
b) Cutaneous-presence of overlying skin lesions viz tuft of hairs, lipoma and dermal sinus
c) Neural-there is an intraspinal lesion viz intrameduary lipoma, dermoid cyst which produces neurologic deficit.
