Spending time in a positive work environment can be a key factor in determining an employee's job satisfaction. In your resources for this week, you have explored the detrimental effects that a negative work environment can have on an organization. If morale is poor, then production is usually not much better.
As you review the resources this week, continue your research, and complete your Discussion posting, contemplate the following:
- Identify what specific things you believe a manager could do to promote a positive work environment.
- Think of managers you have had in the past, both good and bad. Describe both the positive traits and negative traits you observed in these managers and comment on how their actions affected you personally. Do you think they adequately represent you?
Think of a cohesive and scholarly response based on your readings and research this week that addresses the following:
- What is the manager's role in creating a positive work environment?
- What behaviors and attitudes would you need to acquire as a manager to fulfill this role?
- Assume you are in upper management and need to hire a new manager. Using your responses to the previous two questions, create a want ad that describes the desirable characteristics of someone who would be effective at creating a positive work environment.
