In this essay, you will define and research a sustainability problem. The problem you will study will be assigned soon after you take the syllabus quiz (where you identified your interests in particular project topics). Then, research and thoughtfully respond to the questions below in a 600-800-word essay. Meet all of the criteria listed in the grading rubric. Cite at least three academic sources (in APA format) to support your arguments. Refer to APA tutorial in Unit 2 for details on how to cite in APA format correctly. Although you can use your textbook as a source, it must be in addition to at least three other sources.
Introduction paragraph - Identify the sustainability problem. Provide a brief history explaining the origin and evolution of the problem. Be sure to mention:
1. Spatial scales (Where is the problem occurring? What scale is most appropriate to study the problem? Why?)
2. Temporal scales (When did/will the problem begin? How much worse will it get in the future?)
3. The important actors (Who does this issue impact? Who should be involved in addressing it?)
Body paragraphs - Explain the sustainability problem in terms of a wicked problem (Refer to the example given in your textbook, Box 2.1, page 46). Make sure you mention all of the criteria in your essay!
