Some people believe economists are selfish. I think this is associated with how they perceive the following passage of Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations (Book I, Chapter II):
"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we can expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest".
Briefly discuss what Adam Smith meant by this. Where does the confusion stem from?
