Program Specialist-Mental Health Department
This position functions as the Program Specialist for the South Central Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (SC MIRECC), headquartered at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas. SC MIRECC has four anchor sites within the South Central VA Health Care Network (VISN 16) and a total of ten participating VA Medical Centers. In partnership with other VA entities, SC MIRECC generates new knowledge about causes and treatments of mental disorders to apply research knowledge to model programs and improve the quality of veterans' lives.
The Program Specialist provides a variety of office functions in the areas of administration/program management, fiscal management, procurement/contracting, and program analysis throughout the headquarters and four anchor sites as it relates to VISN 16. The position is critical in supporting its mission to promote understanding of the outcomes of mental health services through education and training, and to develop improved mental health services delivery models and systems.
Specialized Experience:
In order to qualify at the GS-11 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Generally, specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, this includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks and responsibilities: assisting in the preparation of reports, correspondence, and other documents; performing a variety of record-keeping duties (updating manuals, maintaining files, etc.); coordinating meetings and training classes; purchasing supplies; reconciling financial reports; and assisting with contracting processes (preparing procurement documents, assembling contracts, performing limited contract administration, etc.)
