Skid resistance of wearing course
Skid resistance of wearing course in a bituminous pavement is contributed by macro texture (which implies the general surface roughness) and micro texture (which implies the protruding from chippings) of the wearing course. These two factors affect skid resistance of flexible carriage in various situations. For example when carriageway is designed as a high-speed road, tiny channels among the macrotexture help to drain rainwater to the side of road and avoid occurrence of aquaplaning. In low speed roads microtexture has specific significance in offering skid resistance by gripping the car tyres to road surface.
